Sustainability and energy efficiency practices
At Ombria Algarve, each and every building and infrastructure has been designed and built in the spirit of the best sustainable principles and cutting-edge energy-efficient practices, without ever neglecting the prime quality that defines Ombria.
Our pioneering, low-impact near-to-surface geothermal system works by transferring the geothermal heat to pumped water through the ground and, in combination with reverse heat pumps, used for climate control, both cooling or heating. A clean, round-the-clock renewable energy source free of risk for ourselves and our neighbours.
The Algarve enjoys over 320 days of sunshine per year. Implementing solar technology is important for the region’s energy sustainability. At Ombria Algarve, we installed a network of vacuum solar panels to harness this abundant natural resource and support the geothermal system for climate control and outdoor pool heating.
Ombria resort’s GEO-certified golf course confirms our love for this region as it outlines how the golf development, from construction to design, has benefited local communities and the environment. Our sustainability commitment ensured that the golf course integrates with the landscape and benefits the local community we play alongside.
Our water management system includes a specially designed pumping system that stores and distributes rainwater collected through ditches alongside our roads, streets and car parking areas. It is channelled towards a storage lake and used for irrigation and landscaping by energy-efficient pumps, saving water and electricity by around 15%.
Located in the inland Algarve and easily accessible via road, Ombria Algarve integrates transportation into its broader sustainability commitment and efforts. The resort offers both public and private parking facilities, fully equipped with electric vehicle charging points. In total, 22 individual charging access points are available.
As we preserve and promote the unique region of the Algarve, we are also creating a safe space for all the biodiversity within Ombria resort. By building a plant nursery we are ensuring the development and growth of several local species and working towards the preservation of the existing flora and fauna.
