Playing golf to the highest sustainability standards
As concerns and expectations of sustainability are growing in all walks of life, the golf community is no different, and it now looks to contribute more for the welfare of nature and communities – and for the good of the game. Weaving around ancient rivers and trees that have stood for generations, Ombria’s signature golf course has achieved the standards of golf’s most prestigious ecolabel certifications – the GEO Foundation’s certification.

Sustainability in practice
Ombria Algarve managed to carve out a golf course that is interwoven with the area’s native species and landscape. The project for Ombria’s golf course included a commitment to a 1:5.6 replanting policy site-wide, planting over 750 holm oaks, and maintaining 2 on-site plant nurseries, a greenhouse, and an organic farm. Additionally, Ombria Algarve has taken several measures to have a local positive impact by tracking fertility levels required for the site’s soil, implementing specific management and monitoring plans for water quality and drainage and protecting natural habitats of local rare and endangered species through the implementation of an environmental management plan for natural and semi-natural habitats.
